Alternative Dispute Resolution
Co-Chairs: Mary S. Jones, Esq. and Steven R. Sauer, Esq.
The Alternate Dispute Resolution Section primarily focuses on providing information and continuing education to users and providers of alternative dispute resolution services. Each year, many high quality and world-class speakers address CCBA members and guests. Since ADR is applicable to all types of disputes, the subject matter of the ADR programs are quite diverse. This past year, programs included the new disclosure rules, construction related issues, attorney client disputes, attorneys fees disputes, retainer agreements, and employee relations issues.
Steven R. Sauer, Esq. His practice is devoted exclusively to resolving disputes as a full-time neutral Arbitrator, Mediator, Referee, Special Master, Fact Finder, Conciliator or Facilitator, having been appointed on over 10,000 private and/or judicially appointed international and domestic commercial disputes since 1974. He consults and lectures extensively on case analysis/evaluations, dispute resolution protocol and ADR issues. He’s been on the Board of Governors of the CCBA since 1999, and is on the LA Region Board of Directors for both the Society of Professionals in Dispute Resolution and The
Association for Conflict Resolution. Steven has been Chair of the ADR Section since 1996.
Mary S. Jones, Esq. is an attorney and full time arbitrator and mediator. She has been on the Panel of Arbitrators of the American Arbitration Association since 1982 where she has conducted hundreds of arbitrations and/or mediations on a wide variety of matters. She is a frequent speaker on construction and ADR related issues for the California State Contractors’ Licensing Board. She is past Chair of the Advisory Panel of the California Center for Construction Education, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Mary has been on the Board of Governors of the CCBA since 1994 and prior to that was Corporate Counsel Section Chair from 1992 until 1998.
